Travel Vaccines

Travel Vaccines

Hazelhill Family Practice provides travel vaccinations to patients from all across Mayo.

We have extensive experience in providing the best information and medical care for anyone who is planning on taking a trip and wants to make sure they have the right vaccines for their destination.

Travel Vaccines, Travel Vaccinations, Ballyhaunis, Mayo, Hazelhill Family Practice

We will provide a comprehensive consultation to discuss the travel plans of each individual or family. Based on the nature of the travel and the destination, then an appropriate travel vaccine programme can be agreed and provided – all in the comfort of the Hazelhill Family Practice.  The medical history of the patient, including their vaccination history, will also be taken into account before any travel vaccines are administered.

We aim to provide our patients with the most up to date, relevant travel vaccine information possible, helping them to understand the types of choices available and how they can have the safest possible trip.  This extends beyond the provision of travel vaccinations, we also provide advice on the other types of health issues that can arise (such as common insect borne diseases in a particular country or region as well as advice about the local food and water).

When to book your travel vaccines?

At Hazelhill Family Practice we recommend that anyone undertaking a foreign trip that will require vaccines needs to plan ahead. For those who are planning short stay trips which do not include more complicated activities, then it should be sufficient to receive your travel vaccines two weeks before you travel.

For longer trips which may include high risk countries or more adventurous pursuits, we would recommend commencing your travel vaccination programme over a course of a couple of months, so it would be worth booking in your first consultation at least 3 months before you depart.

Travel vaccines offered

There is no set answer for what type of vaccines any patient should receive, no matter what their destination. Some vaccinations, such as yellow fever, are required before a person will be permitted to travel to certain countries. However for most travel vaccines it will depend on the choice of destination, the type of activity being undertaken and the history of the patient.  Below we have set out some of the vaccine programmes we have prescribed for some common destinations which require travel vaccines. This list is subject to change depending on the consultation and needs of each patient.
